FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
21 Speedway to Join Speedway New Zealand as Official Affiliated Track
Speedway New Zealand is pleased to announce that 21 Speedway, located within the Meremere Motorsport Complex, will join as an officially affiliated Speedway New Zealand track.
The addition of 21 Speedway marks an exciting step forward for the growth and diversification of speedway in Aotearoa. The venue, a high-banked 1/3 mile dirt oval currently undergoing restoration, represents a unique and historic addition to the national network of speedway tracks.
Originally known for its “Outlaw” heritage, 21 Speedway is being revitalised under the leadership of Kerry Brocas, with a vision to bring the track back to life as a high-energy, competitive racing venue while honouring its legacy.
This development comes at a time of renewed momentum within the sport, with Speedway New Zealand continuing to support strong participation across its nationwide network of tracks and competitors.
Speedway New Zealand President Lani Thompson said the inclusion of 21 Speedway reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting both established venues and new opportunities within the sport.
“The return of 21 Speedway is an exciting development for speedway in New Zealand. It brings a unique style of racing and a strong sense of history, while also creating new opportunities for competitors, officials, and fans.”
21 Speedway will initially join Speedway New Zealand as a Division 2 track, reflecting its current stage of redevelopment. The venue will work closely with Speedway New Zealand to meet the required standards and benchmarks, with a clear pathway toward achieving Division 1 status in the future.
Once fully operational, 21 Speedway is expected to contribute to the depth of racing opportunities in the North Island, complementing existing venues and helping to grow participation across multiple classes.
The venue progresses towards its first official Speedway New Zealand sanctioned event on 26th April 2026, with the 21 Speedway Test & Tune Day that has attracted over 100 competitors from peak Open Wheel and Super Saloon champions to vintage demonstration cars.
