It is regrettable that Sunset Speedway in Westport have withdrawn their application for a 2016-17 track license. Unfortunately the downturn in the West Coast economy has resulted in an unagreeable position regarding medical services available to the track for the upcoming season. Due to the risks involved in motorsport - SNZ competitor, official, and spectator safety continues to be the most critical principal of Speedway New Zealand in protecting the future of our sport.

Speedway New Zealand wish to confirm that current Westport License holders, will be automatically upgraded to Division 1 licenses for the remainder of the 2016-17 season. Speedway New Zealand have been in communication with local tracks who are looking to support any competitor affected by this outcome.
